CHILDREN and YOUTH EDUCATION

Children’s and Youth Christian Education at Advent provides introductory, foundational materials and faithful leaders which teach from Scripture, the Lutheran Confessions, and Apostolic witness to our children from the earliest of ages until they are ready to leave for college or life vocations.

Sunday School for Children begins at 9:45 am with the Sunday School opening. They are then released to their age appropriate classes. Our educational material is focused on the weekly lectionary which helps our children be involved in the worship service.
Ms. Ruthie is the teacher for children
1st through 5th grades.
Ms. Judy is the teacher for our younger children.
Ms. Thelma teaches handbells to our Joyful noise choir on the 1st and 3rd Sundays of the Month.
Pastor Jones teaches Middle and High School Youth

CONFIRMATION CLASSES
Confirmation is taught by Pastor Jones on the FIRST and THIRD Sundays of the Month with our
Catechist, Ms. Ruthie.
Confirmation age is Sixth Grade or Higher
Confirmation is a two year curriculum:
Year 1: Biblical Survey of the Old and New Testament
Year 2: Luther’s Small Catechism and more
REQUIRED ONE YEAR CONFIRMATION CAMP
Tuition is Covered by Congregation

ADULT EDUCATION

Adult Education at Advent Lutheran Church provides to all faithful teachers, materials, and classes for the teaching of the whole of Scripture and doctrines of the Lutheran and Apostolic Church to prepare adults to be faithful servants/disciples of Jesus Christ and his Church.

This is a 6-Week course that explores the topic of the “free-will” from a biblical perspective, looking at what Scripture has to say about bondage of the human will and how Jesus Christ has come to deliver us from ourselves.

Bible Studies
Bible Studies are offered either on Monday nights or Wednesday nights throughout the year. These classes range in interest level from beginner to advanced Biblical teaching and theology. These classes are generally taught by the Pastor and guest theologians.

Vacation Bible School
VBS is usually conducted in the summer months, and is open to all ages including adults.

Pastor’s Classes
Pastor’s classes are intended for new members, refresher for old members, as an introduction to life at Advent Lutheran Church and Lutheranism
to those coming from differing Christian traditions. Pastor’s class also includes adult catechisms.

Training Classes
Training classes are offered to address ministry needs and opportunities ​within/without the congregation,
such as: lay assisting, altar guild, ushers,
Eucharistic ministry, and more.

Guest Teachers
Advent Lutheran Church is gifted with
many friends of the congregation who are versed in scripture and the early Christian Church.
It is our joy to be able to offer classes which tap into our guests teachers experience and wisdom.

Retreats
Advent Lutheran Church and
Shepherd of the Woods Lutheran Church and School host an annual Women’s Retreat
(usually in November) to women for the purpose of Biblical Study, Christian fellowship,
and Spiritual renewal. The retreat is held at
New Ebenezer Retreat and Conference Center, Rincon, GA.
